|50th Anniversary Celebration
Dr. Glenn and Fleta Mathews of 125 Olde Spring Lane, Robbins, N.C.,
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 26, 2008. They were
married in the Fayetteville Street Baptist Church in Asheboro, N.C.
The Rev. A. E. Madaris, Pastor of the Fayetteville Street Baptist Church,
and the Rev. R. R. Mathews, father of the groom, and Pastor of the Clifton
Hills Baptist Church of Chattanooga, Tenn. performed the ceremony. They
observed their golden anniversary with a visit to Seattle, Vancouver, B.C.,
and concluded the trip with a cruise and land tour of Alaska.
Fleta graduated from Asheboro High School in Asheboro, N.C. While
assisting her husband in ministry, she attended North Texas State Univer-
sity, Marshall University, receiving a B.S. in education from West Virginia
State University. Her Master’s level work was in Special Education and
Counseling at Liberty University and WVU. She taught in public and private
schools in Texas and in West Virginia. Both she and Glenn are members of
the American Association of Christian Counselors and she also holds
additional certification with the International Board of Christian Counselors.
Glenn is a graduate of Gadsden High School in Gadsden, Ala., Tennes-see
Temple University in Chattanooga Tenn., where Fleta and Glenn met. In
addition to a M. Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in
Fort Worth, Texas, he received a D.D. from Ambassador Baptist College in
Lattimore, NC. In addition to pastorates in Texas and West Virginia, he
established the program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing with the WV Division
of Vocational Rehabilitation.
Since 1976, they have been involved in church evangelism and mis-sions.
Their ministry has taken them to six continents and to 39 countries. They
are the parents of two daughters, seven grandchildren and one great
