After Action Report - Chiang Rai, Thailand
"From November 28 through December 10, 2005 I served
with five pastors and three laymen among the Akha tribe in
Northern Thailand. This was my second trip to that area.
The purpose of this trip was to meet with native pastors
and their members and conduct a Bible Conference in the
evenings and to conduct seminars with the pastors and
evangelists. The Akhas with whom we were working, live
near the border of Thailand,Burma (Myanmar) and Laos,
north of Chaing Rai. When we were there in 2002, the
villages had no electricity or sanitation. Now they have
both and have made much "progress" in becoming a part of
the society of the country. The pattern seems to be 'Get
electricity today, a TV tomorrow.' The elderly people of the
villages are seeing the people leave their cultural heritage
and adopt the 'ways of the city'.
Sessions on pastoral problems, pastoral leadership,
importance of doctrinal and moral purity, resolving
problems within the membership (church discipline), etc.
were conducted. Some of the team worked with couples,
others with the teens and with children. It was a profitable
time for the workers and for the Akha. Missionary/Pastor
Kiatisak Siripanadorn has done a wonderful work among the
Akha for the past 20 years. He is, truly, a man of faith.
Since our first trip, this ministry has been responsible for
financing the erection of four church buildings among the
Akha tribes. Revival Crusade is the sole support for one
native Akha pastor. I was able to meet with him and to get
a firsthand update of his family and his work. I was also
able to visit one of the new church buildings that we had
financed and to preach in that building.
Although our focus was on strengthening the church, we
did see about 20 professions of faith among the people
who attended the conference. It is about a 35 hour day to
come from Bangkok to the states. I arrived back home on
Saturday evening, DEC 10, fully jet lagged, but grateful for
the opportunity to have made another trip to that area of
the world. My thanks to all those who gave to enable me
to be your representative
